Arthur "Buddy" Blankenship, 70, of Conroe, Texas passed away after a sudden illness on March 11, 2017. Buddy was born in Houston, Texas on October 17, 1946. He was the beloved son of Arthur "Blackie" Blankenship and Dorothy Coy and younger brother to Fred Blankenship and Betty Anne Reeves. If anyone could say that they had cleared their Bucket List it would be Buddy. He drove race cars with greats like AJ Foyt and he played baseball with Nolan Ryan. He was a certified diver, professional football player, Police Officer, school teacher, a college professor and then a college director. He was an award winning high school linebacker and a state batting champion in junior high. Buddy coached football and baseball, taking his team to a district championship. Always an entrepreneur at heart, he owned and operated several successful businesses. He loved to hunt and fish. He even competed in quick draw and so much more. Buddy surrounded himself with family and friends throughout his life and no one could ever say that they had a dull time if he was around. He was an outgoing and bold individual on the outside but a deep thinker within himself and a true friend to all that knew him. He never met a stranger, and there was always room for one more at the table. Buddy is survived by his wife, Judy Pabor Blankenship; his son Larry and daughter Tabitha; their mother, Betty Miller Blankenship; his daughter-in-law Stephanie; his son-in-law in heart Jay Hanna; his grandchildren Hailey, Wyatt, Arabella and Eliana; and many greatly loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Buddy was preceded in death by his father, Arthur "Blackie" Blankenship; mother, Dorothy Coy; brother, Fred Blankenship; sister, Betty Ann Reeves; and his grandson, Gabriel Blankenship. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Metcalf Funeral Home located at 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and celebrate the life of Buddy. The family encourages guests to bring their stories and memories of Buddy to share during the memorial.
